What training does The Gypsy Council Thames Valley provide?
The answer is we do what you need...we tailor our training to each agency, and the
individual needs....!
We have qualified consultants who work specifically within the areas
·
Health Issues,
·
Planning - site provision and design
·
Education

We also offer diversity training to organisations, dispelling myths and encouraging greater community cohesion.
We are also able facilitate meetings for agencies with the Gypsy and Traveller communities; working on behalf
of our community but not always with our community fully engaged.

Concerning Health Specifically:
The Gypsy Council is able to provide verified reliable data on the ‘Gypsy and Traveller Health Status’ in England,
which has identified key areas for improvement:
·
Diabetes
·
Coronary Heart Disease
·
Smoking Cessation
·
Infant Mortality

We provide training to help Service Providers rectify the health inequalities in these target areas advising on best practice
and communication. A snap shot of what we are able to provide:-

·
An introduction to Gypsy and Traveller health inequalities using a range of media.
·
Advice to individuals and teams on the provision of culturally sensitive care
·
Recommendations on providing information in an accessible format
·
Guidance on conveying your departments message across in a way that the community will want to hear
·
Advice on how to get the community to access services

Health promotion within the Gypsy and Traveller Community is also significantly less affective when compared to the
settled community:
·
Immunisation Uptake within the Gypsy and Traveller Community
·
Health Screening

We offer problem solving sessions with professionals to address these disparities.
All training has been created with input from the Gypsy Traveller community – with a qualified nurse specialising in
Gypsy Traveller issues.

Acknowledgement and attention has been given to the appropriate policies and papers in this area, such as:
High Quality Care for All – NHS Next Stage Review Final Report
Performance Indicators for Primary Care Trust’s set by Healthcare Commission,
Our health, our care, our say: a new direction for community services
Saving lives: Our Healthier Nation

Delivery is flexible, and we are usually able to offer a range of packages to meet all needs.
Fees taken are returned to the community to continue the advancement of our work.
